Quarante - away from the hustle and bustle
Quarante is a small hilltop village located between Beziers and Carcassonne in the Languedoc region. Away from the hustle and bustle, this sleepy village still boasts a host of local amenities. You need never leave the village.
Quarante is most famous for its 11th Century church, Eglise Sainte-Mairie which is located in the heart of the village and is also a stopping point on the trail of Santiago de Compostela.
The Cave Cooperative is also a highlight of the village, especially if your visit coincides with the “vendange” (grape harvest). Our sleepy village, during a four-week period, comes alive with the sound of grape-laden tractors and trailers and the smell of wine lingers in the air.
Quarante is one of 20 villages that make up the St Chinian appellation. Wine is in the blood here and “vignerons” (winemakers) make up a large percentage of the local residents.

Quarante and the surrounding area has so much to offer our guests. A “voie verte” (converted railway line) starts from our village and provides the perfect flat surface for running, cycling and walking. We are surrounded by hills and forests with some great hikes on offer too. Should you wish to venture further afield we have rivers, lakes, idyllic villages, fabulous restaurants, bustling cities (should your heart desire!) and the famous Canal du Midi is only a few kilometres away.
